KLT-40S (Akademik Lomonosov)

Operating Rosatom
Output
35MWe

KLT-40S (Akademik Lomonosov) is a light water-cooled reactor design from Rosatom rated at 35 MWe. A unit of this design is generating power.

Two 35 MWe marine-derived reactors on a barge moored at Pevek in the Arctic, commercially operating since May 2020. The only SMR anywhere that has been selling power for years rather than promising to. It is also the awkward datapoint for the SMR cost thesis: it was expensive, late, and only economic because the alternative in Chukotka was diesel.
